Understanding and reporting Hospital Mortality Statistics

Feedback from previous course attendees

Long time analyst but new to NHS mortality stats and this session was a real eye-opener as to what importance (or lack of) to give them and how to explain them better to others ….

I learned that comparing hospitals based on mortality statistics is flawed and we need something more sophisticated to do the comparison.

I liked the the pacing and story-telling nature of the presentation. The method of layering on knowledge was excellent.

Hospital mortality statistics are widely used but widely misinterpreted. This course will help you understand what you can and cannot learn. You will learn how they are derived and (ab)used. You will learn how best to report mortality statistics and understand how to investigate a high/low hospital mortality statistic.
