Part of INSIGHT 2022

Sarah-Jane Marsh: Insights from decision-making practice

In this session, Sarah-Jane Marsh explored her experiences of decision-making in the NHS – focusing on her practice and how this has developed over the course of her career, considering the factors that constrain and influence leaders and sharing her ideas for improvement. She also drew on reflections from chairing the National Health and Social Care Discharge Taskforce to consider the specific challenges and approaches that can be taken when making decisions across sectors.

Sarah-Jane is Chief Executive of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She has led the Birmingham Children’s Hospital for the last 13 years and in 2015 took on responsibility for the Birmingham Women’s Hospital, creating the first NHS Trust for women’s and children’s services in the UK.
