Insight 2022 – Day 8 – How can you be evidently better when making decisions?

30th November 2022, 10:00 – 11:00

Part of INSIGHT 2022

How can you be evidently better when making decisions?

Do you want to make better policy? Require better evidence? Are you searching for best practice about how to organise what you know and what you do?

Evidently better has been designed by Ipsos Public Affairs to encourage critical thinking about policymaking and evidence. It draws on the company’s experience of delivering insight to clients across the public sector and its clients’ perspectives on what needs to happen next.

Ben Marshall and Mike Lawrie, both Research Directors and co-authors of Evidently Better, shared its underlying philosophy – that policymaking and evidence are improved when they work side-by-side, something they describe as “conscious coupling”. They also explained why it is important to work with the grain of complexity and share practical steps to identify what matters, what works, and how things can be improved.

As an ‘outsider’, Ben introduced Evidently better and Mike provided an ‘insider’ perspective, applying it to the healthcare sector.  They also shared some experiences and perspectives. This “inside-out, outside-in” session will help you think more clearly about insight and its use.
